Grub Fortress
TF:Grub is being "ReForked"
by Grub, Oct 7th, 2026

Hey, Grub here, just thought I'd come in and annouce something I've been working on in private for a while now, and that is the TF:Grub "ReFork", what is it, why do it, well hopefully those two questions (and some more) will get answered by this post

What is that "ReFork"?
the "ReFork" I've been working on was basically starting with a more or less clean slate, and then bringing over the important code back in

Why do that "ReFork"?
There's a couple of reasons I decided to do it, like:

1. Stability
as the eariler Custom Fortress based TFGrub did have some slight stability issues that I've noticed, like consistently crashing when changing resolution ingame, which might've been caused by some Custom Fortress changes

2. Live TF2 HUD Compatibility
yet another Custom Fortress issue that got brought over into TF:Grub at some point

3. AI Code from Custom Fortress
Custom Fortress did unfortunately have some AI generated code for quite a while, and honestly, it would not surprise me if that was the cause of the first two issues I've mentioned

So, what does this change for the average player?
Not a whole lot to be honest, aside from hopefully better stability, you shouldn't really notice any other major changes (aside from the new content within 0016)

What's the current progress on the "ReFork"?
It's going quite well so far, I've gotten most of TF:Grub over all ready, all the unique weapons should function as they did, and I'm fairly certain most of the rebalances work, haven't checked all of them yet, but I think they all should work, although I'd still probably have to do some file cleanup and some other minor things I might've missed

What will happen with the current code repository?
The current grub_fortress_src repository will be archived in favor of the new tfgrub-src repository, which should be live right now

Is TF:Grub now on the Stock 2013 SDK repository?
No actually, I've decided to go with Mapbase MP for the refork, I think it's a good choice for the "ReFork", as for quite a while I've been looking into integrating Mapbase into TF:Grub in some way for a while now
